Repeatability and Reproducibility Calculator for Microsoft Excel
If you estimate uncertainty, you must calculate your Type A uncertainty:
- Repeatability, and
- Reproducibility
Every uncertainty analysis must include Type A uncertainty.
This repeatability and reproducibility calculator will make evaluating Type A uncertainty easy. Simply, perform repeatability and reproducibility testing, enter your results, and the calculator will do the rest.
It automatically calculates repeatability and reproducibility so you do not need remember formulas or calculate the results manuals.
With the new version of the calculator, it is now easy to only calculate repeatability (if that is all you need to do).
Repeatability (Single Data Set)
Only need to calculate repeatability? Perform a repeatability test, record the results, and enter them into the calculator. It will automatically calculate repeatability and show you the results.
Repeatability (Two Data Sets)
Need repeatability and reproducibility? Have two technicians independently perform a repeatability test, record their results, and enter them into the calculator. It will automatically calculate repeatability using both sets of data and show you the results.
With two data sets, the repeatability and reproducibility calculator uses the method of pooled variance to calculate the pooled standard deviation for your repeatability.
This is the correct way to calculate repeatability. Do not average standard deviations!
Reproducibility
If two technicians independently performed a repeatability test, then the calculator will automatically evaluate the average of each data set to calculate reproducibility.
All you have to do is copy and paste the results to your uncertainty budget or link the cells in your uncertainty budget to the results in the repeatability calculator.
Takes Number of Repeated Measurements into Account
The new version of this calculator now takes the number of samples into count so you can evaluate repeatability in accordance with the JCGM 100:2008 (GUM).
Whether your test or calibration results are based on single measurement or the average of three measurements, the repeatability and reproducibility calculator will take it into account and estimate repeatability uncertainty using the standard deviation of the mean.
Calculate Repeatability and Reproducibility for Up to 5 Test-Points
Most uncertainty analyses only to calculate repeatability and reproducibility for one or two test-points within a measurement range.
However, some uncertainty analyses require you to estimate uncertainty at more test-points. Now, the repeatability and reproducibility calculator allows you to evaluate up to five (5) independent test-points which is perfect for some test and measurement systems.
Imagine estimating uncertainty for the DC Voltage function of a Fluke calibrator or a precision multimeter. Since their are typically five measurement ranges, you can now calculate repeatability and reproducibility for all five on one Microsoft Excel worksheet.
Need more than 5 test-points, simply copy and paste the calculator to add more test-points. It is unlimited.
Also, email us if you use more than 5 test-points. We will use your feedback to add more to this calculator.
Evaluating Type A uncertainty is essential to estimating uncertainty. Make estimating uncertainty easier and use this R&R calculator.
